2010 Volunteer Training

The council will offer a two-day training session in basic literacy this spring. The classes will be offered from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.Saturday, April 17, 2010 and Saturday, April 24, 2010 in the community room of the downtown library, 248 Main St.

There is no fee for the classes, but registration is required to assure that sufficient materials are available. A light lunch will be provided.

The registration deadline is Monday, April 12. Potential tutors may register by calling the office at 539-3791 or by sending an email to info@camcolitcouncil.org. Include you Name, Address & Telephone Number.

No previous teaching experience is required to become a tutor. The requirements for tutoring are high school graduation and a sincere commitment to helping people learn to read effectively.

The basic literacy class provides hands-on instruction through the steps of Laubach Way to Reading for adults and progresses through more-advanced reading levels. The sessions also will include instruction on English as a Second Language.

The classes also can be a refresher course for former tutors who have been inactive and want to update their skills.
