Volunteer Training
The council will offer a two-day training session
in basic literacy this spring. The classes will be offered from 9 a.m.
to 3:45 p.m.Saturday, April 17, 2010 and Saturday, April 24, 2010 in
the community room of the downtown library, 248 Main St.
There is no fee for the classes, but registration is required to assure
that sufficient materials are available. A light lunch will be provided.
The registration deadline is Monday, April 12. Potential tutors may
register by

the office at 539-3791 or by sending an email to
info@camcolitcouncil.org. Include you Name, Address & Telephone
Number.
No previous teaching experience is required to become a tutor. The
requirements for tutoring are high school graduation and a sincere
commitment to helping people learn to read effectively.
The basic literacy class provides hands-on instruction through the
steps of Laubach Way to Reading for adults and progresses through
more-advanced reading levels. The sessions also will include
instruction on English as a Second Language.
The classes also can be a refresher course for former tutors who have
been inactive and want to update their skills.
